Kruseler puppet

Zwickau, 14th/15th century, clay

These figurines were very common during the 14th and 15th century, especially in the south of Germany. They were as big as a hand and served as toy or holy figure. The name is derived from the bonnet with veil and trimmed with ruffles women had been wearing between 1350 and 1425.
